![]() ![]() The foie gras was served with a brioche and an interesting mousse which I think was cardamom and another floral spice. The oyster was very good… served in the shell with a delightful foam and accompanied by a cocktail that was citric and really contrasted beautifully with the sea-salt taste. The smoked salmon and trout with a dill sauce allayed my concerns that there wouldn’t be any classic flavours albeit this was a course that didn’t live long in the memory alongside a fairly middle of the road Chilean chardonnay. The river shrimp and bisque was paired with pear but this quirk worked very well alongside a crisp (almost Provençal) Muga rose. ![]() The amuse bouche was slightly odd (rose chocolate with a chocolate distillation & tonic) and it made me slightly worried I was about to embark on a very zany culinary journey. The service was excellent - a little bit of information about each dish and wine without going overboard. the tasting menu and wine pairing… with the caveat that I possess no knowledge of Quito’s broader food scene, it felt extremely high-end and very reasonably priced. TLDR real fine dining with the odd mis-step but mainly excellent. I want to review this restaurant as I would some of London’s best (eg Core / Fera (RIP)) as I think that is the standard they are trying to set for themselves. Thank you all for having made a special evening for us! More I even lost my wallet at the restaurant and they immediately taxied it to my hotel -seamless. They offered standard food for our daughter to also make her happy so we could enjoy the amazing tastes of Ecuador. We skipped the tasting menu as it was too European and instead choose many local options which were amazing! The staff was incredible friendly and caring. It makes you feeling home either being from the US or Europe. Wonderful! As I am a foody and have enjoyed many * restaurants around the world, this restaurant I would judge as being a classic. arrived early and they still arranged the restaurant for evening guests and bookings, they offered us a table inside the restaurant before opening. We travelled with our 4 year old daughter and it was not of a problem for the kind staff to make a wonderful evening for us all. My wife arranged a dinner here on my birthday and it was a superb family experience. It’s lovely and the people are nice - and you’re not awakened at the crack of dawn by the tolling church bells, like some Gangotena guests told us! More Such a disappointing experience for such a storied hotel! Stay where we stayed - the Hotel Plaza Grande - instead. Beautifully presented but my medallions of beef loin, although I asked for medium rare, had been kept under a warming lamp long enough to get dry. My margarita was very good and started making me feel a bit better! But the food was disappointing. They quickly found us a table since there was plenty of space (a 6-top stood empty next to us for the whole dinner) and finally accepted to take our jackets from us. We insisted on being seated in the restaurant (even though we were feeling pretty uncomfortable and unwelcome). of four adults, dressed nicely for the occasion, not a bunch a riff raff!) Yet in spite of there being space in the dining room, they tried to seat us alone in the atrium, with the excuse that we would be more comfortable because it was “cooler” there. As non guests of the hotel, it was made crystal clear we were not welcome. Restaurants with Outdoor Seating in QuitoĪlthough we weren’t staying at Gangotena, we made reservations for their restaurant- what a huge disappointment!
